Environmental Education

Educación medioambiental

Environmental Education is aimed at teaching how natural environments work, and, in particular, how human beings can influence and take care of different eco-systems in order to develop life in a sustainable manner in harmony with nature.

One of the fundamental premises of our educational project is to promote and give incentive to research as a scientific way of learning for our pupils. As a means of preserving the environment, we are promoting educational and environmental programmes at Humboldt Manor and Bandama Country to make our pupils aware of the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural and rural environment, by boosting study in direct contact with nature.

At Humboldt Manor and Bandama Country we make the aims of the different stages of the pupils’ curriculum aims compatible with important and intensive research work in the fields of Natural Sciences, Botany, Vulcanology, Geology, Geomorphology and Traditional and Organic Agriculture. It is important to teach pupils about the place where we live, not only our homes, the part of the town we live in and our school, but the overall surroundings where we and all individuals and organisms live.

Our planet is a complex system where numerous factors which render life possible are related. We should not feel apart from the natural environment or consider it as a great storehouse which provides us with all we need; it is important to pay attention to the integration of culture and nature, to the preservation of diversity and eco-systems and to give incentive to attitudes of respect which guide us towards the sustainable use of natural resources.
