Lower Secondary Education

ESO

Lower Secondary Education covers four academic years and is configured as a new educational stage with its own characteristics. Its aim is to pass on to all pupils the basic elements of cultures, to train them to assume their duties, exercise their rights and prepare them for Upper Secondary School (Bachillerato). Attention to the diversity of our pupils’ interests, motivations and aptitudes constitutes the basic aim of this stage of education.

On reaching this stage, our pupils have mastered the English and German languages (and of course Spanish) and new technologies, so that they have no difficulty in accessing the enormous amount of information and bibliography which exists in these languages and which thus allows them to expand their knowledge of the different subjects which they study, to understand them in greater depth and to increase their capacity for assimilation.

One important aspect is the number of conferences, themed workshops and educational outings held during the course with the aim of strengthening what has been learned in class with the irreplaceable addition of personal experience.

At the School social values such as the spirit of integration, co-operation through teaching in a team to strengthen overall education in the social, scientific and humanistic fields are encouraged. At a certain stage in their lives students start to demand an even greater degree of independence and liberty, so it is fundamental to educate them in a sense of responsibility. The development of a capacity for criticism with respect to their own acts is fundamental to achieve freedom and responsible independence.

At an academic level, we attach great importance to consolidating and improving the knowledge acquired at this stage, all this in the School’s two official languages, Spanish and English, by progressively increasing levels of demand depending on age and giving pupils suitable tools to face this stage of their education.

In the final courses of this stage, the School offers its pupils a series of options which guarantee proper preparation for Upper Secondary School (Bachillerato) and attaches great importance to academic and professional guidance, in the light of the important decisions which they must make when the course is finished.
